As part of the Leadership Vallejo training program, members of each year’s class divide up into smaller groups and are required to create and implement a "Group Project." Projects often require group members to identify, engage and work with other individuals, organizations and groups within the community who may have resources which can help lead to success. Class projects may sometimes be a work in progress by the time the full class graduates each spring, but a number of Leadership Vallejo projects have become ongoing enterprises on their own and continue to contribute to a better Vallejo…thinks like Team Tennessee, the Business/Education Career Track partnership program with Vallejo Schools and the creation of a Volunteer Vallejo website.
Paula Strickland, Birgit Rickert, Derrick Karimian, Laray Thompson and Melissa Brosas formed the Vallejo Waterfront Alliance as their Class 3 Group Project and have already mobilized over 150 community volunteers for a Saturday cleanup/paintup/fixup of the Vallejo Waterfront. Longer term, the group wants to add new shelters, trash receptacles, seating and landscaping to modernize and beautiful the waterfront area for everyone to enjoy.
